Our austenitic iron-chromium-nickel stainless steels T303, T304, T316, in the fully annealed heat-treated condition, are fracture tough at cryogenic temperatures and paramagnetic with relative magnetic permeability at around 1.05. Type 303 is equivalent to ISO[2]2 A1. T303 is made when close tolerances are required and turning, center-less grinding is employed. Type 304 is the most common in the classic 18/8 stainless steel and is equivalent to ISO A2 as a low carbon, chromium-nickel alloy. It is highly corrosion resistant and is non-magnetic. It requires heavier equipment to machine, but is easier to weld than type 303 and minimizes carbide precipitation during welding. It also offers excellent resistance to a wide range of corrosives and atmospheric exposures. Our T316 plates are especially corrosion resistant and resist pitting and most of the chemicals used in the paper, textile and photographic industries requiring high temperature strength. Type 316 is ideal for food applications as well as surgical stainless steel.
